Stick Dog

Stick Dog is the leader of this group of stray dogs. He helps them find food to eat. He’s very, very patient when his friends ideas are, umm, not so good. He lives in a big empty, dry pipe that runs under Highway 16 in the suburbs.

He got his name because Tom doesn’t know how to draw very well. He draws stick-figure dogs the way most people draw stick people. For the final books, Ethan Long (a MUCH better drawer than Tom) takes Tom’s original sketches and makes them look, ahem, a bit better. Okay, a lot better. You can see a couple examples of Tom’s original sketches and Ethan’s final artwork on the Author page.

Karen
Karen

Karen is the dachshund. She gets lost sometimes because she’s so short. She really likes barbecue potato chips. She once lived in the back of a French-Asian fusion restaurant. Karen loves to chase her tail. She has caught it only once in her life. It was a glorious day.

Poo-Poo
Poo-Poo

Poo-Poo is not named after, you know, going to the bathroom. He got his name because he’s a poodle. He’s really good at smelling things. And he’s even better at describing those smells. He grew up on a dairy farm. Poo-Poo is very good at smashing his head into things – on purpose. One more thing: He really doesn’t like squirrels. Really. A lot.

Stripes
Stripes

Stripes is a Dalmatian. She’s very fast. She also gets freaked out pretty easily. She’s quite athletic and can jump and bounce all over the place. Stick Dog met Stripes when she was fired from her job as a security dog at the mall. She says it was because of the ‘nacho cheese grande incident.’ She refuses to give any details.

Mutt
Mutt

Mutt is a mutt. He is quite sensitive. He once lived with a mailman named Gary. He doesn’t remember how he got to the suburbs, but does remember something about being delivered in a package. He LOVES riding in a car. Mutt stores (and sometimes loses) things in his fur. He can howl really loud. He eats almost anything when he’s hungry, like socks, Frisbees, tennis balls – those kinds of things.
